July 1 - Brother Knights, I am truly humbled and honored to have been chosen to be the Grand Knight of St. Mary of Sorrows Council 8600 for this fraternal year. I look forward to working with the committee chairmen, the past Grand Knights and each individual member of this council to serve our church, our pastor, our families and our community.
The Knights of Columbus is a church and family based, fraternal, service organization. If you haven't been active in the past, I challenge you to find a way to become more involved in one or more of the activities we have scheduled for this fraternal year. Please make an effort to support these programs, don't assume that someone else will do it. Many of our activities require a donation of just 2 hours of your time or less. Make the time to participate in our activities and I guarantee that you receive more in return than that which you donated. If you have an idea for a new activity, please contact me or the Deputy Grand Knight, Brian Prindle, or one of the committee chairmen and make them aware of your idea so that we can find a way to implement your idea as a new activity of the Council. I would also like to remind you that another main reason the Knights of Columbus exists is to support our widows and children should we meet an untimely death. Remember the warning words spoken in the 1st Degree Exemplification "If our order is to provide a secure future for you and your family, YOU must take the 1st step. Become an insurance member of our order." To become an insurance member or to review your existing plans, please contact our Field Agent, Phil Freda I would also like to thank Past Grand Knight, Gerry Rutkowski, for being a great friend and mentor to me over the past 5 years. Gerry has left some big shoes to fill and I will do my best to live up to the expectations he has set in our council. In closing I look forward to an excellent year filled with fraternity, unity and, most importantly, charity. Fraternally & Vivat Jesus!
