Presidents' Day 2012

The annual 5 Car Raffle provides both the council and the parish an excellent opportunity to raise funds for charitable endeavors.  Over the past several years we have been able to successfully raise funds toward such projects as: Marian Homes, the Paul Stefan foundation, Fr Ephrem’s tuition, the Sacred Heart statue in the cemetery, the Holy Family statue in front of the parish center, the annual March for Life busses, the 150th St Mary’s anniversary book, and other smaller efforts requested by Fr Barkett.  This years proceeds will be used to assist with the repairs to Old St Mary’s Hall which are currently estimated to run at $95K Participation allows individual’s the opportunity to win 1 of 5 vehicles or $20 K in cash prizes. Through combining our efforts w/All Saints parish the council creates a win/win situation that maximizes revenue for both organizations.  Hopefully we will have a winner from St Mary’s again this year. Click to see the Vehicles.

Volunteers for the March 24, 2012 Route 123 cleanup should meet at Old St. Mary’s Hall at 8am, dressed for the weather of the day (if heavy rain, or snow, we will reschedule), and bring work gloves.  Volunteers work in pairs and clean both sides and median strip of Ox Road from intersection with Fairfax Station Rd. to Chapel Rd.  With 10-12 participants, the job will be done by 10am.  Contact Kevin O’Brien at kevinobrien01@aol.com if you are able to help.

The Knights of Columbus 8600 Annual Chili Cook-Off will take place Tuesday February 21, 2010 at the second Council meeting of the month. If you wish to participate please email our trusty Warden at jmchugh@yahoo.com to register for a spot.

The time had come, the waiting was over, and it was now or never.  Their name had been called and as they stood up and walked forward they would glance back looking for that reassuring smile or thumbs up. Ever so carefully they would approach the line, and then stop, close their eyes, as if to steady themselves…maybe even offer up a prayer or two. Read More -->>

Council Members –

We, the Officers of Council 8600, are committed to support our Council in making this fraternal year the best by surpassing the membership recruitment efforts from last fraternal year, and by retaining all members we can.

A growing membership is the key to keeping a Council strong; it is the lifeblood of our Order.  Our recruitment theme for this year is; “Recruit a Member – it’s a Daily Effort”.

With our strong and active Membership Plan we will have a stronger and more vibrant Council.  Recruiting new members brings in new ideas, new energy and new growth for our Council.  Retaining those members builds the character of the Council and solidifies our programs.  By coordinating our efforts we will Revitalize and bring new energy to our Council.

The Council’s challenge this year is to recruit a net 36 new or reactivated members. To do this we need your help.  It is imperative that each Knight recruit a new member this year.

Look around your neighborhood, among your friends, and the men seated around you at mass.  If you do not see them wearing a Knights of Columbus badge, invite them to become one.  Give them a Knights Membership form 100, have them complete it when you give it to them, after it is signed by the proposed member and you, turn it in at the next Knights meeting, or drop it at the Church office.  After you drop it off, we request you notify us of the completed form by sending an email to us, we will pick up the form, and forward it to our Admissions Chair, PGK Gerry Hovan.

I thank you in advance for taking an active part in recruiting for the Knights.

On Friday, March 16, our Council is sponsoring a St. Patrick's Day dance for residents of the Northern Virginia Training Center (NVTC), in the gym at Building 11.  Volunteers are needed from 7:00 - 8:30 PM to assist residents many who have severe physical handicaps to participate in this event.  Please call Gerard Durback if you can help, at 571-332-2644 or at gwdweb@yahoo.com.
