NOTES OF ST. MARY OF SORROWS COUNCIL #8600 MEETING, 4/18/2006 :
1. THE GRAND KNIGHT CALLED MEETING TO ORDER AT 8:05 PM.
The GN Announced that we would have an abbreviated meeting open to wives and others with a guest speaker immediately following.
2. MEMBERSHIP CARDS WERE NOT VERIFIED BY THE WARDEN
3. THE OPENING PRAYER WAS LEAD BY THE CHAPLAIN.
4. THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIENCE WAS LEAD BY THE WARDEN.

6. THE MINUTES WERE READ FOR LAST MEETING,

7. REPORT OF ADMISSION COMMITTEE:
No report.
8. GRAND KNIGHT’S REPORT: GRAND KNIGHT REPORTED.
§ We have a guest speaker for tonight but there are a few important items we need to highlight. § KOVAR is this weekend. Scott Leitch our new KOVAR chair will have more on this later in our Committee reports. § We have our first practice softball game with FCCSL Thurs 4/20 at Wakefield 4 at 7:30. § Fourth Degree meeting is tomorrow Wed at Fr Malloy St Leo’s Knights Hall and an organization meeting of the new 4th degree assembly at Nativity April 25th at 7:30 § Tim Shea has his Improve A Home projects and captains ready to go April 29th which he will speak to later. § May has Special Olympics, the Arthritis Walk and our Memorial Mass. § Frank Gnazdowski acquired a small book “Knights to Christ” which we will be purchasing for brother knights. It has daily messages that are a great way to boost our spirituality.
9. READING OF BILLS AND CORRESPONDENCE:
The GN received an e-mail from Carolyn Smith who described Operation Helping Hands, a service project organized by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Students from Immaculata University are planning to attend on May 9th through 19th. The cost of the trip is $200 plus equipment (face masks, goggles, etc.). She requested support for one or more students.

None.
11. TREASURER’S REPORT:
Solvent. $108K plus in the bank. Still owe for car raffle receipts.
12. FINANCIAL SECRETARY REPORT:
Reported on receipts for the month.

1.April Improve-a-Home Project - Week from Saturday. Tim assembling Team leaders. Gene assembling volunteers to assign to team leaders. Need more family friends. Return phone calls yes or no. Team leaders make sure Gene knows of number of additional volunteers you can use. 6. KOVAR – This week. Please help Scott Leitch and team leaders any way you can 8.Marian Homes – On Improve-A-Home agenda. 11.Special Olympics – Saturday May 6. Roger Wesley still needs a few volunteers. 14. Arthritis Walk – Please go to KoC 8600 website to make donations and/or sign up for walk on Sat. May 20, 9AM to 11AM.
* Still need 2 people to man phones for projects. Let Gene know if you can be one of 20 knights to call 20 members to staff up different projects.

C. COUNCIL – George Wassif
Br. Cella discussed spaghetti dinner and five car raffle ($33,555) our share will be approximately $20,000. Still one week to go on sales of tickets.
D. FAMILY - Carlos Otel
No report. But discussed upcoming possibility of Sunday June 25th family picnic for Knights and Families.

16. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
None.
17. NEW BUSINESS: -
Br. LaRosa moved for $325 to cover cost of picnic. Seconded by Br. Cronin. Voted and approved.
Br. Mollinelli moved we contribute $200 to Immaculata University to cover the cost of trip to N.O. (see above) for Operation Helping Hand. Seconded by Br. Obuchowski. Voted and approved.
18. DISTRICT DEPUTY REPORT:
Br. Poumade had no report.
19. REPORT OF THE 4TH DEGREE:
Br. Lee commented on the recent number of color guards provided to the parish.
20. FIELD AGENT REPORT: Br. Jones - NONE
21. GOOD OF THE ORDER: . PRAYERS WERE OFFERED FOR CONTINUED RECOVERY AND GOOD HEALTH FOR AILING BROTHERS, WIVES AND FAMILIES. WE PRAY FOR THE POPE AND ALL PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, THAT THEY MAY BE REVITALIZED IN THEIR MINISTRIES. PRAYERS FOR THOSE WHO LEAD AND SERVE IN THE MILITARY AT HOME AND ABROAD. PRAYERS WERE OFFERED FOR THE SOULS OF DECEASED BROTHERS, THEIR FAMILIES AND FOR MEMBERS OF BROTHERS’ FAMILIES.
