On September 28, 2006 at the Rayburn House Office Building, Past Grand Knight, Jerry Hovan, and Deputy Grand Knight, Johnny Restivo, of Council#8600 presented a retirement award to Congressman, Henry J. Hyde, of Illinois on behalf of the Knights of Columbus of Virginia District#14. Congressman Hyde was recognized for his lifetime support of Knights of Columbus principles and Catholic issues. He has sponsored and supported legislation for sanctity of life, marriage protection, and other Catholic family and social issues. The congressman was lauded for his exemplification of our State Deputy's challenge to All Brother Knights of Virginia - "Be Brave, Be Bold, Be Not Afraid" and for his service to our country and the Catholic Church. Also, in attendance was Brother Knight and member of Congressman Hyde's Staff, Dennis Haplin; the Chaplain of the House, Rev. Fr. Daniel Coughlin; and Catholic Herald Staff Writer and Photographer, Mary Frances McCarthy.
